Homemade Sugar Free Chia Seed Jam
This homemade sugar-free chia seed jam is AMAZING, if I do say so myself. It’s free of processed sugar, making it a great option for those on a diet lower in sugar. Making tasty treats like my thumbprint cookies using this jam is one of the ways I’ve been able to survive a sugar-free diet for almost two years now.
What is chia seed jam?
One of the best discoveries I’ve made on my health journey is chia seeds. Chia seeds are high in fiber, which can improve stool consistency (especially helpful for those of us who lean IBS-D). These little seeds are also packed with protein and can reduce inflammation. I’ve been able to tolerate them well, but with caution; too much fiber can be problematic if you have an active bacterial infection in your gut like SIBO.
The best part about this chia seed jam recipe is that it’s inexpensive. It’s only a few ingredients at its base: chia seeds, water, and frozen fruit. You can optionally add stevia if you desire a little extra sweetness and lemon juice if you have it on hand. This chia seed jam comes together almost instantly and it even gets better as it sits in the fridge and thickens. If you’re familiar with chia seed pudding, it’s got a similar texture.
To make this recipe have more of a jelly-like consistency, mash the fruit as finely as possible in step 3. If you’re like me and prefer jam, simply use more generous pieces of berries, and it becomes jamlike.
I hope you enjoy this recipe! If you end up making it, I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

Difficulty: Easy5

hoursIngredients
1 & 1/2 cups frozen mixed berries (I used blueberries & raspberries)
1 tbsp. lemon juice (optional)
Small pinch stevia (0ptional)
1 tsp filtered water
1 tbsp chia seeds
Directions
- Place frozen fruit, lemon juice, stevia, and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir until the fruit starts to soften. Reduce heat if the fruit starts to boil.
- Let it condense. Once slightly cooled, use a potato masher to reduce the fruit down to your desired consistency. For a more jamlike texture, leave some larger pieces of fruit behind.
- Scoop into a glass mason jar. Mix in the chia seeds. Stir well to combine, and then seal up.
- Store in the fridge for 1-2 hours to thicken before serving, or overnight for best results.
